What fits in a 20-yard
- Kitchen remodel: cabinets, counters, flooring, drywall and appliances from a typical kitchen, with room to spare.
- Bathroom(s): two full bathroom gut-outs including tile and tub.
- Roof tear-off: a single-layer roof up to about 30–40 squares by volume — weight is the limit (see below).
- Garage or attic cleanout: the whole thing, including the workbench and the old fridge (Freon units set aside).
- Deck or shed: a 12 × 16 deck or a standard shed, broken down.
- Flooring: carpet, pad and tile from a 2,000 sq ft house.
- Concrete: about 10 tons as a dedicated heavy load — roughly a 20 × 20 ft driveway at 4 inches.
When weight, not space, is the limit
Three loads routinely exceed 3 tons before the container looks full: roofing shingles (250–400 lb per square), concrete and masonry (about 2 tons per cubic yard), and dirt or sod (1–1.5 tons per cubic yard). Placement and driveway protection
Every container is set on heavy wooden boards under the wheels and rails. Pick a spot with about 60 feet of straight approach for the truck and no low branches or wires; the swing door should face where you will be loading from. A 20-yard fits most Lakeland driveways lengthwise with room to walk past. Street placement inside city limits needs a right-of-way permit — see the permit guide.
